Psalm 23:5-6
"You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever." (Psalm 23:5-6)
There are so many demands on our attention and time right now. If the table is our heart, every seat around the table represents another enemy, or another demand on our time that takes us away from God’s presence. God has designed a feast for us in the middle of that table, and we can be fulfilled by His presence. The psalmist isn't saying our problems disappear. God's generosity and hospitality are more real than your circumstances. The demands on our hearts subside because we are anointed, honored, and blessed by God. Being in His presence, our cup overflows.
During Lent, we've spent weeks examining our emptiness, our need for God, our brokenness. But as we approach Easter, we're reminded that the story doesn't end in the valley. It ends at a table. It ends with abundance. It ends with the promise that you'll dwell in God's house forever, not as a guest passing through, but as someone who belongs there completely.
This is the culmination of everything the psalmist has been saying. We have a shepherd who cares for us. We have walked through valleys and been restored. As you close out this week of reflection, consider the promise that we are not just passing through this life. We are heading home to our Father’s house, where we can rest and find peace in His care and presence.
