From the Darkness to the Light
1 John 2:7-11
7 Dear friends, I am not writing you a new command but an old one, which you have had since the beginning. This old command is the message you have heard. 8 Yet I am writing you a new command; its truth is seen in him and in you, because the darkness is passing and the true light is already shining.
9 Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates a brother or sister is still in the darkness. 10 Anyone who loves their brother and sister lives in the light, and there is nothing in them to make them stumble. 11 But anyone who hates a brother or sister is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness. They do not know where they are going, because the darkness has blinded them.
Have you ever sat in traffic absolutely despising the person that just cut you off? Or regretted a favor after the person didn't come through for you next time? I'm incredibly guilty of blaming another for an inconvenience myself. It is so hard to be the bigger person sometimes! And yet, in our Scripture it tells us to walk in the light. It tells us to love and support others. We can't know why that person cut us off. Maybe they just didn't see? Or maybe there is no reason. The Lord doesn't clarify. He asks us to see and guide. He asks us to be the bigger person and forgive when we can. We are told to love first. We can be the lamp that guides others from the darkness to the light. We just need to glow from with-in with the power of the Holy Spirit first.
How can you show the Lord's love today?
Who can you be a brother or sister to?
