The Earth is the Lord’s

Psalm 24:1

I know that people have a lot feelings about talking about money in church. Some people think that money talks have no place in church. So stewardship season can be awkward and dreaded for some people, even pastors. And yet here we are in stewardship season again. Yesterday was our annual pledge Sunday where many of us turned in our pledge cards for giving in 2026. However, some of us probably haven’t turned in our cards, because you want to pray about it more or you weren’t in church yesterday or you didn’t get a pledge card yet. Regardless of whether you’ve pledged or not for 2026, it’s also good for us to think about stewardship beyond our pledges and just one month of the year. So this week’s devotions focus on stewardship theologically and broadly.

Psalm 24:1 reminds us of a simple but profound truth: everything we have and everything we are belongs to God. The earth, our possessions, our time, our talents—none of it is truly ours. We are caretakers of what already belongs to Him.

Stewardship, then, is not about giving God a portion of what’s “ours,” but faithfully managing what is God’s. When we see life through this lens, generosity becomes a joyful response rather than a reluctant duty. We give, serve, and live not out of obligation, but out of gratitude for the privilege of caring for God’s creation and resources. It helps us view our pledges not just as a box to check off but also as part of discipleship as followers of Christ.

As you reflect today, ask yourself: How am I using what God has entrusted to me—my time, abilities, and finances—to honor God and bless others? Remember, true stewardship begins when we acknowledge that it all belongs to the Lord.

Prayer
Lord, thank You for entrusting me with Your gifts. Help me to be a faithful steward of all You’ve placed in my care. May my life reflect Your ownership and my gratitude. Amen.
